๐ Mental Health Amendment (Psychiatrists) Act 2012
052 of 2012Assented 29 November 2012
This Act amends the Mental Health Act 1996 to update the definition of 'psychiatrist' and validate certain actions taken under previous interpretations of that definition. It also updates references to 'psychiatrist' in other instruments.
Impact
Medical practitioners who qualify as psychiatrists under the updated definition are affected. Patients receiving mental health services are indirectly affected by ensuring clarity in who can provide those services. Retrospective validation provides legal certainty.
