๐ Health (Fresh Produce - State or Territory of Origin) Amendment Bill 2005
Referred to the Economics and Industry Standing CommitteeLA29 June 2005Private Member
This bill amends the Health Act 1911 to require retailers to label fresh produce with its State or Territory of origin when displayed for retail sale, unless it is pre-packaged.
Impact
Consumers will be better informed about the origin of their fresh produce. Retailers will need to implement labelling practices. This matters because it promotes transparency and allows consumers to support local producers.
Key Changes
["Requires labelling of fresh produce with its State or Territory of origin at the point of retail sale.", "Defines 'fresh produce' to include fruits, vegetables (excluding frozen, dehydrated or preserved), and nuts.", "Specifies that the label must be displayed on or in connection with the display and be in a standard type of 9mm."]
