Acknowledgement of Country

The WA Legislative Assembly's Procedure and Privileges Committee recommended the formal adoption of an Acknowledgement of Country at the start of each sitting day. This includes amending Standing Orders and adopting specific wording to recognise the Whadjuk Noongar people and other First Australians. The changes were planned for implementation in early 2018.
Impact
This change formally recognises Aboriginal people and their connection to the land within parliamentary proceedings. It aims to promote inclusivity and respect.
