Report Review 2020–21; Examination of selected reports by the Commissioner for Children and Young People
The WA parliamentary committee reviewed the Commissioner for Children and Young People's reports, focusing on the wellbeing of girls and the placement of children with harmful sexual behaviours in residential care. The committee supports the Commissioner's work, especially the Speaking Out Survey, and urges greater resourcing for disadvantaged children. They also highlight the need for expedited implementation of Royal Commission recommendations.
Impact
Children and young people in WA, particularly girls and those in residential care, will be affected. Government agencies and organisations working with children will need to adhere to Child Safe standards and address complaints effectively. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people; and children and young people who are vulnerable or disadvantaged will benefit from greater resourcing.
