Legislative Council Prayer
Procedure and Privileges Committee (Council)· 18 June 2015general_report
The WA Legislative Council's Procedure and Privileges Committee reviewed the Legislative Council Prayer following a motion to change it. The committee consulted with members and found no consensus for a completely new prayer. They recommended a minor amendment to remove gendered language from the existing prayer, while retaining its core purpose and reference to the Queen.
Impact
Members of the Legislative Council are directly affected, as the prayer is recited at the commencement of proceedings. The broader WA community may be indirectly affected through the values and principles reflected in the Council's proceedings.
