Procedure and Privileges Committee (Council)· 30 November 2017general_report
The WA Legislative Council's Procedure and Privileges Committee recommends adopting an Acknowledgement of Country at the start of each sitting day. This follows a survey of members and consultation with a cultural expert, Dr Richard Walley, and aims to align with practices in other Australian parliaments and recognise the Whadjuk Noongar people.
Impact
Members of Parliament, the Whadjuk Noongar people, and the broader community will be affected. It aims to promote reconciliation and respect for Indigenous culture within parliamentary proceedings.
