I refer to reports of gas leakages at multiple sites across Western Australia including those run by Chevron, Santos and Woodside in 2025, and I ask:(a) how many gas leakages at mine and petroleum sites or decommissioned sites were reported in 2025;(b) have all of the gas leakages referred to in (a), now been stopped; and(c) did any fossil fuel companies pay fines as a result of gas or methane leakages last year?
Answer
(a) The Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE) received a combined six reports in 2025 relating to leaks from Chevron, Santos and Woodside.
(b) No.
(c) DMPE is actively investigating reported incidents and considering all available regulatory and enforcement options.
