Question

I refer to the Department of Communities’ Education and Care Regulatory Unit’s (ECRU) ability to investigate complaints that relate to the legal requirements of the Education and Care Services National Law (WA) Act 2012, or Education and Care Services National Regulations 2012. Specifically, ECRU’s ability to investigate complaints and matters that impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of children at a particular ECEC service. I also note the Minister’s comments to the ABC in November of last year that, “Any allegation of inappropriate behaviour is taken very seriously, and where serious incidents are identified, the [ECRU] investigates and takes appropriate actions.”:(a) In 2025, how many complaints of alleged sexual abuse were received by ECRU - which falls under the regulator's ability to investigate complaints and matters that impact on health, safety and wellbeing of children at an ECEC service;(b) Of the number of complaints received in (a), how many:(i) Resulted in a referral to WA Police;(ii) Resulted in a prohibition notice being issued; and(iii) Resulted in no further action; and(c) Please provide the equivalent answers to (a) and (b) for the years 2017 through to 2024, separately by year?
