Question
Health care—Byford Health Hub61.Mr Hugh Jonesto
theMinister for Health:I refer to the Cook
Labor government's commitment to delivering better health services closer to
home. Can the minister advise the house how this government is investing in
local, convenient and high-quality health care, including in my electorate of
Darling Range?
Answer
Ms Meredith Hammat replied:I thank the member
for the question. I want to recognise his advocacy not just in relation to health
services for his community, but around a whole range of issues. I thank the
member for his advocacy. As the member knows, Byford is one of the our fastest growing
areas in the state and, indeed, right around Australia. It is great to have the
opportunity to talk about how last month, alongside the Premier, the Minister
for Health Infrastructure and, of course, the member for Darling Range, we
attended an event to mark the commencement of the construction of the new
Byford Health Hub. The health hub model that we are building in Byford is a
first for WA because it will provide a single entry point for residents to
access a range of primary care, along with community, social and specialist healthcare
services, all in one convenient location. There is an incredible diversity of
services in this new state-of-the-art facility. On the ground floor there is
going to be a specialised area for primary care, pathology and a mobile X-ray.
The first floor will house 28 consultation rooms for private and public
outpatient providers so that they can deliver both telehealth and in-person
appointments. There will also be mental health services, four consultation rooms
and a therapy room that can be used for family or group sessions. There is also
a well-equipped gym so there can community–based rehabilitation
services for people to be able to stay active and avoid an escalation to more
medical care, particularly with a focus on older adults. There will also be
three clinic rooms for child health nurses, with a welcoming waiting area to
welcome parents and children. But it gets better because
the centre, as the member for Darling Range knows, is opposite the new Byford
Metronet station, building on our government's investment in the broader region
with this highly accessible hub. It will not just support better health outcomes
for the Byford community—it is one many initiatives that our government
is progressing to alleviate pressure on hospitals. But, importantly, it will deliver
more care in the community close to where people live. This project is part of
our government's $4.9 billion infrastructure investment that is delivering a
range of projects right around the state that are going to make a real
difference to Western Australians being able to access the care they need when
they need it.
