Transgender prisoners
208. Hon Michelle Hofmann to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I refer to a letter
from Women's Forum Australia dated 12 October 2025 that was sent to the Premier
raising serious concerns about the safety and dignity of women in prisons,
given that male offenders who identify as women are being housed in women's
prisons.
(1) Has the Premier responded to that
letter?
(2) If not, why not?
(3) Will an inquiry into this issue be
undertaken?

I thank the honourable
member for some notice of the question. The following response has been
provided by the Premier and I answer on behalf of the
Leader of the House.
(1)–(3) This letter was sent to all state and
territory leaders and the Prime Minister. I am advised the Department of
Justice has policies in place to ensure the safety of all prisoners in WA
prisons.
