State hazard—Fuel supply
222. Hon Steve Martin to
the Leader of the House representing the Minister
for Energy and Decarbonisation:
I refer to my
previous question asking about the increased consumer demand for fuel in
Western Australia as a result of the conflict in Iran, and asking for the
current alert level, both ignored in the minister's answer.
(1) Does the Cook Labor government have
any access to any figures that demonstrate the increase in Western Australia's
consumer demand for fuel since the start of the conflict?
(2) If no to (1), why not, and what assurances
can be made that the state government is not flying blind when it comes to
monitoring the state's fuel market?
(3) If yes to (1), can a summary of
figures showing the total increase in demand above normal rates be provided?
(4) If no to (3), why not?
(5) What alert level under the state's
energy supply disruption plan are we currently at and why was this not answered
in my earlier question?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following on
behalf of the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation.
(1)–(5) The fuel industry operations group is
meeting regularly to share intelligence and provide specific advice on fuel
supply, distribution and demand within the state. Daily intelligence on supply
and price is also being provided by government agencies, fuel distribution and
retail representative organisations, including across Western Australia's 771
registered fuel stations. The incident level is currently set at level 1, yellow, reflecting an increased need to
collaborate across industry in response to acute shortages in regional
locations.
