Synergy—Wind farms—Power purchase agreements
273. Hon Dr Steve Thomas to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation:
I refer to the
Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation's media release of 22 March 2026
advising of power purchase agreements signed between Synergy and several wind
generation proposals.
(1) Did the minister instruct Synergy to
take PPAs with Parron Maam Marang and Kondinin wind farms?
(2) If yes to (1), when, and can the
minister please provide a copy of those instructions?
(3) When did Synergy initiate and
complete negotiations with the proponents of each of those wind farms?
(4) If no to (1), when was the government
informed of the negotiations and the ultimate decision to take the PPAs?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1)–(4) The minister issued a direction for
Synergy to enter into power purchase agreements totalling 640 megawatt
hours. See tabled paper number 1110. Synergy released an expression of interest
(EOI) to the market in July 2025 and executed PPAs in
early March 2026. Synergy engaged with government as required under the Government Trading Enterprises Act 2023 .
