I will say this
again. Unlike that side, we support community housing, We support investment in
homelessness and in transitional accommodation like the new Common Ground,
which has tenants moving in. Of course, we have our large-scale build-to-rent program.
I tell members this: I will not be lectured by a party that has no commitment
to social and affordable housing, and whose first policy at the last election
was for tougher evictions to drive people onto the streets. I will not be
lectured by a WA Leader of the Liberal Party who has no moral leadership on those
issues. The member for Cottesloe can laugh at the closure of a women's shelter;
she can laugh at it. It is to her shame that she can laugh at it. This is the
truth about the WA Liberal leader. It was not just me who pleaded for him not
to shut it down; it was the nurses, the welfare workers and the women's
advocates who were outside his City of Perth building. At a time when there was
significant coverage of the need for more transitional accommodation for women
fleeing domestic violence, he put politics first and said, "I'm closing down
that shelter." We have the member for Cottesloe laughing about it, and
others up the back are endorsing the WA Liberal leader. That is their legacy.
That is their history. We will remind people every step of the way that they
have no moral compass.

interjected.
Mr John Carey: You do not care!
The Speaker: Members! Leader of the Opposition!
