Fremantle Traffic Bridge—Rail bridge component
283. Hon Steve Martin to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister
for Transport:
I refer to the
$430 million Fremantle Traffic Bridge being delivered by Main Roads WA and
the media statement of 16 November 2023 saying that the rail bridge
component of the project was being deferred and that this will reduce the
overall cost of the project.
(1) Based on the $430 million costing,
approximately how much was saved by removing the rail bridge component?
(2) Noting that the November 2023 Main
Roads project update said, "the new concept allows space for future rail
if required", can the minister confirm whether this is still the case for
the final design?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Transport.
(1)–(2) The inclusion of a rail bridge would have
added an additional $200 million to the cost of the project. The design
allows for sufficient space for a rail project.
