I refer to your media statement released on 11 June regarding $9.8 million in new funding for Generation Steel in Collie, and I ask:
(a) Considering the $4.5 million previously committed, can you provide the running total of WA Government funds directed towards Green Steel of WA or Generation Steel to date;
(b) By what volume or percentage is this mill expected to reduce Australia's reliance on steel imports once it is fully operational;
(c) What due diligence has the Government undertaken to prove that green steel can be produced in Western Australia at a globally competitive price without permanent subsidies;
(d) Will the Minister table the relevant business case, cost-benefit analysis and risk assessment for this project, if not why not;
(e) Does the Minister accept that BP’s recent decision to exit the Australian Renewable Energy Hub, one of the world’s largest proposed green hydrogen projects, shows major private investors are reassessing the economics of hydrogen-led industrial projects;
(f) What is the total number of private proponents who have asked for government support because their projects are not financeable on ordinary commercial terms;
(g) How many green steel or green iron proponents have reached final investment decision without taxpayer subsidy, concessional land, procurement guarantees or government-backed infrastructure; and
(h) What is the Government’s plan if WA’s lower-grade Pilbara ores require additional processing, blending, beneficiation or pelletising that makes local green iron uncompetitive?
