Green steel
350. Hon Sophie McNeill to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Manufacturing:
I refer to the
answer provided to question without notice 1144 asked on 20 November 2025 and
the expression of interest process for locally manufactured green steel for
major government projects that closed in March this year.
(1) Now that the expression of interest
process has closed, can the minister please provide an update on what the
government considers to be the appropriate amount of fossil fuels used for both
green and low-emission steel production respectively?
(2) If any gas-fired power is used in the
steel production, can the government confirm that this will not be classified
as green steel?
