Karratha Women's Place—Funding
285. Hon Julie Freeman to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister
for Health:
I refer to the ongoing
funding uncertainty facing Karratha Women's Place, which provides essential
services to women and families in the Pilbara.
(1) Is the minister aware that since 2019
Karratha Women's Place has operated on short-term grants and pilot funding
extensions without long-term certainty?
(2) With the state budget due on
Thursday, why has Karratha Women's Place still not received a funding decision?
(3) Noting Karratha Women's Place has
been advised that no further support is available through North Metropolitan
Health Service until at least 1 July 2026, does the minister accept that this
delay is forcing the service to exhaust limited resources, cut wages and rely
on personal funds to keep essential programs running?
(4) What immediate action will the
minister take to provide certainty and ensure that these services are not
disrupted?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has
been provided by the Minister for Health.
(1)–(4) North Metropolitan Health Service
previously entered into a pilot grant agreement with Karratha Women's Place,
funded by the Department of Health. North Metropolitan Health Service is
currently undertaking an evaluation of the ongoing delivery of these community
services, including future service requirements and appropriate delivery
arrangements. As this work relates to an active evaluation and procurement
process, it would not be appropriate to comment on specific funding
allocations, budget considerations or potential future providers at this time.
Any future allocation of public funding will be subject to appropriate
government budget processes and will require organisations to demonstrate
suitable governance, financial management and accountability arrangements to
ensure that public funds are managed responsibly and services are delivered in
the public interest.
