Hon. Sophie McNeill questions the government about a Deloitte report commissioned by Woodside Energy suggesting WA will miss its net zero target, asking if the government's modelling aligns and if new gas fields will be approved. The government states they weren't consulted on the report and remain committed to the 2050 target.

Emissions targets
368. Hon Sophie McNeill to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation:
I refer to the
Deloitte report released yesterday, commissioned by Woodside Energy, that
suggests WA will miss its net zero by 2050 target by up to a decade.
(1) Is the modelling contained in this
report consistent with the government's and, if not, what is different?
(2) Can the government rule out approving
any new gas fields now it is clear the state is already at risk of not meeting
2050 net zero targets?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) The state government has not been
consulted regarding the modelling in the report. The state government remains
committed to a credible trajectory of emissions reduction to net zero by 2050.
