Question

I refer to the WA Government media statement from March 1 detailing the helicopter fleet to assist Western Power’s response to emergencies, including patrols in Geraldton, and I ask:(a) For how many months of the year will a helicopter be based in Geraldton for the purposes of supporting power restoration;(b) How long is the contract with Corsaire Aviation;(c) What modelling has been done to support the response to (a);(d) What is the range these helicopters will cover;(e) What areas within Geraldton and the Mid West will these helicopters cover; and(f) How will the helicopters support restoration of power?

Answer

(a)-(f) The helicopter fleet will assist Western Power to identify faults on the network and transport switch operators to remote locations to restore supply. The fleet can be deployed across all areas within the South West Interconnected System. One helicopter is based in Geraldton during bushfire season, with access to additional helicopter units as required. Western Power’s agreement with Corsaire is commercial in confidence.
