St John of God Midland Public Hospital299.Ms Libby Mettamto
thePremier:I
refer to the federal Labor government's short-changing of the critically needed
expansion of St John of God Midland Public Hospital by $40 million, delaying
the delivery of this project into the next decade. Will
the Premier raise this issue with his friend the Prime Minister as a matter of
urgency to ensure that eastern suburbs patients do not pay the price for
Labor's broken promise?Several
members interjected. The Speaker:Members! When you are ready.Thank you.
Premier.Mr Roger Cook replied:Design
on the expansion of St John of God Midland Public Hospital continues, including
the emergency department. The redevelopment of the hospital will expand the
availability of public health care in our eastern suburbs and the wider region.
The ED expansion will see an increase in ED bays, a new ambulance drop-off area
and a new reception and waiting area. The expansion will be supported by an
uplift in inpatient rooms and services. It will deliver services for the
growing population in the Swan and hills area, where the number of ED
attendances is anticipated to grow 38% by 2031–32. The total election
commitment is $355 million, including the $200 million committed by the
Commonwealth at the 2025 federal election. In its federal budget, the Commonwealth
allocated $160 million towards the project from 2025–26 to 2029–30. We will
continue to work with the Commonwealth to ensure the full project funding
reflects the schedule of works to deliver the expansion of St John of God Midland
Public Hospital.
