Hospitals—Upgrades77.Mr Ron Saoto the Minister
for Health Infrastructure:I refer to the Cook
Labor government's record investment in health infrastructure. Can the minister
update the house on how this government is accelerating the delivery of major
hospital upgrades across Western Australia, ensuring all Western Australians
can access the health care they need when they need it?
Answer
Mr John Carey replied:I thank the member
for his question. We are undertaking an
ambitious health infrastructure program. It is a record breaking $4.9 billion
across Western Australia. You are seeing massive transformation of our hospital
system. We hear a lot from the other side claiming nothing has been done, and
of course we know that is false—Ms Libby Mettaminterjected. The Speaker:Member for Vasse!Several members
interjected. The Speaker:Member for Belmont, thank you. Leader of
the Opposition!Mr John Carey:The member for Vasse is very agitated
today.The Speaker:Minister!Mr John Carey:I don't know what she's been
drinking. The Speaker:Minister!Mr John Carey:Of course, we have the Joondalup Health
Campus redevelopment, a major expansion, with more than 100 beds completed. It
is a significant capacity addition for the hospital system. We have completed the
brand-new Newman Health Campus and the Albany Health Campus radiation oncology
services. We have upgrades at hospitals in Collie, Dongara, Boddington, Dalwallinu,
and Wongan Hills. We have got the Fitzroy—Several members
interjected.Mr John Carey:They laugh. It's interesting.Several members

interjected. The Speaker:Members of the opposition!Mr John Carey:We have the Fitzroy Crossing Renal Health
Centre expansion. It is only Labor governments that actually care about the far
north, with the step-up, step-down in Karratha. Of course, we have a large
number of projects underway. The women's and babies' hospital is under construction,
but if we had followed the Liberal's plan, it would not be under construction
right now; it would be out into the never-never. We have Royal Perth Hospital
and the new Mandurah hospital, and we have major regional hospital builds. We
have Geraldton Health Campus, which will be completed this year. Of course, the
single biggest spend in a regional hospital in our state's history is in
Bunbury. The Nationals WA talk big, but it is actually only Labor governments
that do major investment in regional hospitals.Several members
interjected.Mr John Carey:They are either interjecting—Several members
interjected. The Speaker:Members!Mr John Carey:Seriously. I tell you what, you know—Mr Lachlan Hunterinterjected. The Speaker:Member for Central Wheatbelt!Mr John Carey:The Nats are like a bad Tinder date.
You look at it, you swipe right because you might give it a go, but when you
turn up, you realise you've been catfished!Several members
interjected.Mr John Carey:Can I say this: they are all talk but
they never deliver! They never deliver! The Speaker:Thank you, minister. If you would like to
conclude your comments.Mr John Carey:Whenever the Nationals members get in
government, they talk big, but they never deliver for hospitals in the regions.
It is only a Cook Labor government—Several members
interjected.Mr John Carey:You don't like it.Several members
interjected.Mr John Carey:You don't like it, because you know
that when the Premier comes to open the Geraldton hospital, we will remind the
voters there that you, member for Geraldton, had absolutely nothing to do with
it.Several members
interjected. The Speaker:Members! Members, when everyone just
takes a breath—Several members
interjected. The Speaker:I will give the call to the member for
Mid-West.
