I
refer to Questions on Notice 271 and 491 regarding the contamination of soil, surface water and groundwater
by chemicals known as per- and poly-fluoro alkyl substances (PFAS) and the
plume at and around the former Belmont Fire Training Facility, and I ask: (a) Can
the Minister confirm that PFAS training foam and other fire-fighting chemicals from
the Perth Airport North fire training facility are discharged into the
Redcliffe Municipal Sewer under a trade waste permit; (b) If
yes to (a), have investigations been carried out on the Water Corporation’s low level
sewage pump station in Belmont as it experiences periodic leakages and
overflows and it is adjacent to the known contaminated site in Hardey Road,
Belmont; (c) If
yes to (b), what were the results of these investigations; (d) If no to (b), why not; and (e) Is
there any evidence that contaminated sewage from this facility may have entered
the Swan River via the open drain that flows through this area?
