As the people of
Western Australia know, this government is the government that delivers cost-of-living
relief—more than any government. I know we have but a day to spend here, but I
will continue to illustrate to members opposite what we have done in relation
to cost-of-living relief.

Mr Roger Cook: It includes delivering two student assistance
payments and making VacSwim free over the summer holidays in 2024–25. There has
been over $2,100 in electricity credits for all households over four years.
There is free public transport for school students and there are two-zone
capped fares and fare-free Sundays. There was free transport in the summer of
2024. We capped fares at one zone from 1 January—a significant saving for
those people utilising public transport. There is a $300 school clothing
allowance for families in need and capped regional airfares. In relation to
regional airfares, we have also ensured that any surcharges that airlines wish
to pass on to passengers as a result of increases in fuel prices are not passed
on to make sure that we insulate regional air transport passengers from any
price shocks.
We continue to do
what we have been doing all along, and that is to make sure that we provide cost-of-living
relief to people everywhere. That includes reintroducing the seniors safety and
security rebate—the rebate that the opposition cancelled. We have made TAFE
courses low fee and have provided many for free. We have increased the Patient
Assisted Travel Scheme from 16c to 40c per kilometre. The biggest increase that
the opposition ever managed for PATS was 3c. We increased the Regional
Pensioner Travel Card by $100 to $775 in the last budget and, of course, we
brought in our Country Week assistance payment to make sure that school
students in the country can travel to Perth for this important event each year.
We have continued to make sure that we provide cost-of-living
relief because we have continued to protect the state's finances. We have
continued to make sure that the Western Australian economy stays the strongest
in the nation so that there is no better place to get a quality job and to
enjoy our incredible lifestyle.
