(a) Amendments to the Adoption Amendment Regulations 2026 were in response to Report 66 Broken Bonds, Fractured Lives: Report on the Inquiry into Past Forced Adoption in Western Australia (Report 66). They amend the Adoption Regulations 1995 to improve access to records relevant to an adoption from the Family Court.
(b) These amendments are a result of the consultation undertaken in the preparation of Report 66.
(c) Yes.
(d – f) Report 66 identified concerns around the accessibility of those affected by adoption to have access to information, and the finalised amendment regulations in part addressed these concerns.
Further amendments are required to the Adoption Act 1994 in relation to access to information which the Department of Communities is progressing.
