Health—Winter strategy
161. Mr Basil Zempilas to
the Minister for Health:
I refer to the
minister's repeated claims that the government's winter surge strategies will
deliver an additional 200 beds for public patients and her failure yesterday to
explain where specifically those beds will be located.
(1) What is the breakdown of where the additional
200 beds will be located?
(2) When will they be available for public
patients?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member
for the question.
(1)–(2) We will contract 53 beds at St
John of God Mt Lawley Hospital until the time when we purchase that hospital.
There will be 20 beds contracted at Glengarry Private Hospital, 20 beds at
Waikiki Private Hospital, and five beds at South
Perth Hospital. There will be elective surgery activity through the private sector
equivalent to 100 beds. There will be 12 beds at Fiona Stanley Hospital and 13
beds at Murray District Hospital. Those beds will be available as surge
capacity over the winter months.
