Question

I refer to the 23 'Acute Psychiatric Unit' beds at Bunbury Regional Hospital and I ask:(a) How many are closed during the hospital redevelopment;(b) How many 'hospital in the home' mental health beds are operating as temporary replacement beds during the redevelopment at Bunbury Regional Hospital;(c) When will hospital in the home mental health beds be provided in Busselton and how many will be provided; and(d) When will hospital in the home mental health beds be provided in Margaret River and how many will be provided.?

Answer

a)      The Cook Government’s $471.5 redevelopment of Bunbury Regional Hospital is in response to increased demand for services in the wider area and is set to transform the site into one of the most modern hospitals in regional Australia. As part of the works, it was necessary to demolish, repurpose and refurbish 14 mental health beds. The redevelopment will result in an increase to mental health bed capacity. b)      Mental Health Hospital in the Home (MH HiTH) is not a temporary service. Eight  MH HiTH beds operate in the Bunbury catchment area. c)      Referrals from the Busselton catchment are being accepted within the current MH HiTH program. d)      Community-based mental health care is available through the Adult Community Mental Health team located in Margaret River.
