I refer to the percentage of Western Australians participating in organised sport and recreation (reported in the 2026-27 Budget at a 44 per cent target) and ask:
(a) What data source or sources are used to calculate this participation rate, including:
(i) Whether the data is collected by the Department, another government agency or an external provider; and
(ii) If a survey is used, what survey is relied upon to calculate this participation rate, and who conducts that survey;
(b) How does the Department define "organised sport and recreation" for the purposes of this metric;
(c) How does the Department define "participating" for the purposes of this metric;
(d) It was noted that the 2025-26 Budget was "based on the now discontinued data series":
(i) How has the methodology changed between the previous data series and the current data series;
(ii) Why is the previous data series not comparable with the current data series; and
(iii) Why was the previous data series discontinued;
(e) What was the total cost incurred in collecting, analysing and reporting the data used to calculate this participation rate; and
(f) Was any personal information collected as part of the data collection process:
(i) If yes, who is responsible for storing and managing that information, and for what purpose is it retained and used?
