I refer to the Australian Academy of Science's (AAS) report, 'Indoor Air: The science of indoor air and pathways to improve indoor air quality in Australia,' published in November 2025 and ask:(a) is the Minister aware of the AAS report;(b) has the Minister read the AAS report;(c) given the concerns raised in the report, that poor indoor air quality is associated with numerous serious diseases and has a major economic impact including loss of productivity and work-related illness, what action has the Western Australian (WA) Government taken to monitor and improve indoor air quality in public workplaces
such as schools, hospitals, residential aged care facilities, office buildings
and childcare centres;(d) does the current
Perth Air Quality Management plan adequately cover these concerns;(e) if yes to (d), what
actions have been taken by the WA Government;(f) if no to (d), does the WA Government have any plans to address poor indoor air quality and what are these plans;(g) will the updated
Perth Air Quality Management Plan, which the Minister received from his
department in 2023, address poor indoor air quality and provide a plan for future action;(h) is the Minister aware
that the current Air Quality Management Plan does not address air quality issues
in the regional areas of WA outside the Perth Metropolitan area; and(i) does the WA Government have any plans to address air quality issues in regional WA?

(a)-(i) The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (the Department) has received the report.  Indoor air quality continues to be managed under building construction standards as well as under the responsibilities of employers to provide a safe workspace with respect to obligation under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and Work Health and Safety (General) Regulations 2022 .
A review of the Perth Air Quality Management Plan (AQMP) was undertaken in 2023. With data showing Perth’s air quality remains healthy, the State Government is continuing the implementation of the existing Perth AQMP.
Many of the initiatives and actions in the Perth AQMP can be and are applied broadly to urban centres across WA. Air quality for major urban hubs in regional areas is monitored by the Department with respect to standards outlined in the National Environment Protection (Ambient Air Quality) Measure (Ambient Air NEPM). Data is published annually in the Western Australian Air Monitoring Report .
