Local government—Community relations
315. Hon Rod Caddies to
the Leader of the House representing the Premier:
I refer to the
Premier's reported comments that communities are undermining their local
councils.
(1) Can the Premier confirm that local
community members should not question or challenge their local council, based
on any specific law?
(2) Can the Premier clarify how a special
electors meeting undermines a council?
(3) Can the Premier confirm that some
local governments are as transparent as the state government?

It has been a long
week!
I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) The state government encourages all local
governments and community members to act respectfully. Reforms to the Local Government Act 1995 have increased
transparency and accountability in local government.
