Digital drivers' licences
322. Hon Philip Scott to
the Minister for Science and Innovation:
I refer to the
announcement of digital drivers' licences.
(1) Which company was awarded the tender
for this rollout?
(2) Once digital drivers' licences are
rolled out, will a driver be able to request to only be issued with a digital
licence and, if so, what will occur in the event that their phone is unable to
load their digital licence when requested to do so by a police officer?
(3) The Minister Assisting the Minister
for Transport was quoted in the media as saying that physical licences will
remain available for the foreseeable future, so will the minister provide a
guarantee that Western Australian drivers will continue to be issued with a
physical licence under this government?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) The procurement process for the
digital wallet has not yet been awarded.
(2)–(3) There are no plans to stop issuing
physical licences. The current obligation to present a driver's licence within
a reasonable time period to the CEO or the Commissioner of Police will continue
to apply to both physical and digital licences.
