Former Swan District Hospital site
300. Hon Anthony Spagnolo to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Planning and Lands:
I refer to the
answer given to question on notice 1053, specifically part (d), which states
that works on the former Swan District Hospital site would be subject to a
competitive procurement process. I note that, as reported by Nine News, there
are strong community expectations that the site be used to deliver housing.
That reporting also indicates that developer Hesperia is in early discussions
regarding the potential purchase or redevelopment of the site, which remains in
state government ownership.
Can the government
outline any engagement with Hesperia, as reported by Nine News, regarding the
potential purchase of the site, and clarify what competitive tender process, if
any, such a transaction would be subject to?
The President: Before I give the call to the
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Planning and Lands, question length
is also determined by how long the preamble is. I encourage you to reduce
preambles to ensure you comply with standing order 105.

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide the following on
behalf of the Minister for Planning and Lands.
The former Swan
District Hospital was decommissioned in 2015 and the asset was declared surplus
to state government requirements. The property is being considered for
inclusion in the South West Native Title Settlement, as agreed to by the
Barnett government. If a site is divested, any sale would be a matter for the
new owner.
