Japan—Engagement
228. Hon Sophie McNeill to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I
refer to the Premier's two trips to Japan in July and September last year. The
itinerary of his most recent trip showed that 80% of the Premier's trade
meetings in Japan were with the Japanese gas industry and fossil fuel lobby
groups, including Inpex Corporation, Mitsui, Mitsubishi Corporation, North West
Shelf Gas and Tokyo Gas, just to name a few.
How many meetings
has the Premier or representatives of the Premier had with representatives of
the Japanese government, including the consulate or embassy in Australia, since
the March 2025 state election?

On behalf of the
Premier, I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
The Premier actively
engages with the Japanese government and industries as one of our leading trade
partners. As well as his mission to Japan in July 2025, the Premier has met
with Japanese officials twice since March 2025 and has attended multiple Japanese
industry events.
