Schools—Resources
353. Hon Maryka Groenewald to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Education:
I refer to concerns
raised by parents in multiple Western Australian communities about sexually
explicit publications created for children containing pornographic images and
depictions of sex acts being available to children in school libraries.
(1) Is there a policy that governs the
selection, approval and classification of materials discussing sexuality,
sexual acts and gender identity for public school libraries in Western Australia?
(2) If no to (1), will the government
commit to implementing protections to keep these materials out of the hands of
minors?
(3) If no to (2), why not?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
Honourable member, I
suspect this is an old question.
Hon Maryka Groenewald: It is C008.
Hon Stephen Dawson replied:
I think it is
probably from February, so it might have been removed from my file. It should
not have been. I will undertake to provide it to the member tomorrow.
