Methamphetamine—Funding initiatives
267. Mr Adam Hort to
the Minister for Police:
I have a
supplementary question. Is Western Australia's worst meth result since testing
began what Labor means when the minister said, "We will deal with the meth
crisis"?

AnswerView source ↗

We are and we do it
every day. Now we have a great police force. We have more police than ever
before. They are better resourced than ever before and are doing the job every day,
making major seizures of illicit drugs right across Western Australia. Again, these
are facts that members opposite are very uncomfortable about. We have seen a
drop in overall crime of around 20% since 2016. We have seen a reduction in
burglary offences—down by 66%. We have seen the number of stealing of motor
vehicle offences down by 41%. We have seen the number of property damage
offences down by 18.6%. Members, in spite of a significant increase in population
since this government has been in power, the overall crime volume—actual
numbers—has decreased. That is a remarkable achievement. It shows that this
government stands for law and order and community safety in a way that very few
governments have done in the past, especially yours, members opposite, when
crime peaked in 2016 under the former Liberal–National government.
Several members
interjected.
Mr Reece Whitby: That was the peak, members—20% lower
since their time in government. The facts speak for themselves.
