Renewable energy—Clean Energy Fund296.Ms Jodie Hannsto
theMinister for Energy and Decarbonisation:I refer to the Cook
Labor government's commitment to diversifying Western Australia's economy so it
remains the strongest in the nation. Can the minister explain how the
government's Clean Energy Fund will support our state's transformation into a
renewable energy powerhouse?Ms Amber-Jade Sanderson replied:I thank the member
for Collie–Preston, whose community is at the centre of our energy transition. This
state is already becoming a renewable energy powerhouse. We remain committed to
exiting state-owned coal by 2030, to a credible trajectory to emissions
reduction to net zero by 2050 through a sensible and managed transition that
will harness our natural resources, and to developing WA's clean energy
economy, delivering jobs and the best outcome for the state.Since 2017, the
government has invested more than $6.44 billion in renewable energy
infrastructure, and this budget alone has a further $1.4 billion for the
Clean Energy Fund to support a further swathe of projects, including stage 2
of Clean Energy Link–East.Mr Reece Whitbyinterjected.Ms Amber-Jade Sanderson:Yes, former Minister for
Energy, stage 2 is underway after commencing stage 1 under the former
Minister for Energy. This is key to unlocking renewable energy—cheaper, cleaner
energy for households and industry. It will connect to solar and wind projects
east of Collie to bring more renewable energy into households. Once complete,
it will power around a million homes. Clean Energy Link–North and Clean Energy Link–East
will unlock around three gigawatts of renewable energy into our grid. It will
create about 800 jobs in construction. We are also declaring CEL–North and
CEL–East as priority projects under theState
Development Act 2025to streamline those approvals and support the
state's transformation.We know that the
Liberals and Nationals do not understand that renewable energy is the cheapest
form of generation. They still want to extend ageing coal-fired assets, which
will send power prices skyrocketing. They have no plan for our energy system,
no plan for the grid and no plan for renewable energy. They will use ageing
infrastructure.Several members

have more than $200 billion worth of investment across Western Australia
because of our stable policy decisions in Western Australia, including investment
in the economic infrastructure that will unlock cheaper and cleaner energy.
Unlike those opposite, we are committed to transforming Western Australia's
economy into a renewable energy powerhouse and driving jobs in manufacturing with
more affordable and reliable power for all of Western Australia.
