Question

Domestic and family violence support—Regional housing53.Hon Julie Freemanto theparliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Housing and Works:I refer to reports that the regional housing crisis is undermining the capacity of community legal services to deliver critical domestic and family violence support in regional Western Australia.(1) Has the government assessed the impact of the housing crisis on the availability of domestic and family violence legal assistance in regional communities?(2) Will the government consider targeted housing support, including expanding eligibility under the Government Regional Officers' Housing scheme, to prevent a further reduction in access to these services?(3) How will the minister's statement that "steps were in place to increase government-owned accommodation in towns of most need" assist community legal services to attract and retain their staff?

Answer

Hon Dr Katrina Stratton replied:I thank the member for some notice of the question. I provide the following on behalf of the Minister for Housing and Works.(1)–(3) The Department of Housing and Works constructs social housing and Government Regional Officers' Housing (GROH) throughout the regions. Supports for private or key worker housing are provided through a range of grant programs to support development. The GROH program provides housing to client agencies in accordance with theGovernment Employees' Housing Act 1964to enable the delivery of government services in regional areas. The Cook Labor government's commitment to over $260 million in the GROH portfolio over the next four years will add more than 220 homes to the portfolio. It also includes funding for refurbishment of GROH over the next four years to improve ageing homes and ensure these homes remain suitable for state government workers in regional communities. Where there is no demand for GROH housing, the properties are considered first for public housing and then can be made available to local governments or not-for-profits for lease. The state government has provided significant grant funding to support private sector housing in the regions, including the Unlocking Regional Accommodation Opportunities stream of the Infrastructure Development Fund, the North-West Aboriginal Housing Fund and the Regional Housing Support Fund. As at 30 December 2025, funding has been allocated to 11 projects in the Kimberley, Pilbara, Mid West, Gascoyne and Goldfields to support the delivery of more than 900 new dwellings for key workers or community housing. The President:Well, I cannot fault that answer for being relevant, but it was certainly not concise. Standing order 106 requires that. Domestic and family violence support—Regional housing
