Building and construction workforce—Investment
281. Hon Tjorn Sibma to
the Leader of the House representing the
Minister for Skills and TAFE:
I refer to the
$13.1 million announced for boosting the building and construction
workforce as per the minister's media statement of 3 May.
(1) What metrics will be used to measure
the performance of this expenditure?
(2) What impediments constrain the
ability of government to license the work of interstate and overseas workers,
and what is being done about this problem?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member
for some notice of the question.
(1) This funding is allocated to support
the building and construction industry to attract and recruit skilled workers.
(2) Existing mutual recognition
legislation facilitates the licensing of suitably qualified interstate
practitioners of regulated trades and professions. In addition, pathways are in
place to recognise relevant overseas qualifications through assessment of prior
learning and training programs.
