Answer
(a) – (e)
The WA Housing Strategy 2020–2030 was drafted prior to the effects of COVID, which radically reshaped the housing and construction markets, and is no longer an active document. Unlike the Liberal National Opposition, the Cook Government committed to a social housing target at the last election and has invested a record $6.3 billion in housing initiatives.
To facilitate timely approvals and support increased community housing supply, the State Government's planning reform has enabled projects that incorporate community housing to access Development Assessment Panel and Significant Development pathways, irrespective of project value.
Several improvements have been made to enable people to apply for housing assistance, including the Housing Options Assessment.
The State Government is committed to supporting public housing tenants to sustain their tenancies and prevent homelessness. In August 2024, the Tenancy Support Pilot was launched to strengthen the Thrive Support Program. Together, these initiatives connect tenants with tailored support services, help them meet tenancy obligations, and improve wellbeing while supporting progress toward social and economic stability. It should be noted that evictions have decreased under the McGowan and Cook Governments.
