Housing—DevelopmentWA blocks
187. Ms Sandra Brewer to
the Minister for Planning and Lands:
I refer to the media
story revealing that Perth has the worst supply–demand ratio for vacant housing
lots since the height of the 2013 housing boom, describing land supply as being
in chronic and critically low territory.
(1) Why are there only 30 lots of
land that are less than 500 square metres for sale in Perth, zero in Peel and
zero in the South West on the DevelopmentWA website?
(2) Why is DevelopmentWA drip-feeding
blocks to the market during a housing crisis?

(1)–(2) I thank the member for her question.
Yesterday, I went into detail about how our government is unlocking land
supply. In fact, I talked about a range of measures that we are undertaking,
including the Housing Enabling Infrastructure Fund, which is a $400 million
fund that we are drawing down. Only last year, we provided more than $100 million
for critical water and energy infrastructure to unlock land. Of course, on top
of that, DevelopmentWA is progressing a large number of land development
releases, including, as I stated yesterday, one of
the largest land development releases in the last 10 years with Mirvac. Members
will see throughout this year more land and more joint ventures rolling out to
release land supply. I note that in the 12 months to December 2025, 16,590
new residential lots were created. This is well above the 10-year average of 12,300.
I have been on the record very clearly. We are facing extraordinary demand. We
have a booming economy. People are choosing to live in Western Australia. As a
government—industry knows this—we have a very clear focus on unlocking land
supply.
