Westport—Dredging
171. Hon Sophie McNeill to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I
refer to Westport, which, if it proceeds, could result in one the largest
dredging projects in Australian history taking place in Cockburn Sound. I note
that Cockburn Sound is a critical spawning habitat for pink snapper in the West
Coast bioregion.
(1) Given the alarming
demersal fish stock numbers that have led to fishing closures in this state, is
the government reconsidering the need to carry out such a massive dredging
project in critical spawning habitat for pink snapper?
(2) Can the government
please table the advice it received about the proposed dredging for Westport and
the impact on the critical pink snapper spawning habitat?
