Question

I refer to the resourcing of the Fisheries, and I ask:(a) How much funding was allocated to fisheries research in this financial year; and(b) How does that figure compare over the past 10 years?

Answer

(a-b) The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) has budgeted $15.6 million for fisheries research in the 2025-26 financial year. Since the inception of DPIRD in 2017-18, the annual fisheries research expenditure has averaged $15.7 million. These totals exclude external funding. Reporting of 8 years (instead of the 10 years requested) is aligned to the Machinery of Government changes in 2017-18.
