Western Australian curriculum—Literacy and numeracy
278. Hon Rod Caddies to
the Leader of the House representing the
Minister for Education:
I refer to changes
in the Western Australian curriculum over time.
(1) Have there been changes to the way
literacy and numeracy are taught to children in primary school in Western
Australia since 1995?
(2) What assessments has the Department
of Education undertaken to determine whether curriculum changes and shifts in
teaching methods have contributed to the decline in literacy and numeracy
outcomes?
(3) Will the minister commit to an
independent review of literacy and numeracy teaching practices in Western
Australia, with the aim of reversing the decline in student outcomes?
