Public housing—Transfers
288. Hon Tim Clifford to
the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Housing and Works:
(1) What is the average wait time for
public housing transfers?
(2) How long has the person with the
longest waiting time been waiting, by each type of dwelling?
The President: That is seeking a fair amount of data.
We will see if the parliamentary secretary is able to assist with an answer.

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide the following on
behalf of the Minister for Housing and Works.
(1)–(2) Public housing tenants seeking transfer
are housed and priority for allocation is for those who are on the waitlist and
may not be adequately housed or who may be homeless. Transfer times for public
housing vary depending on the availability and turnover of suitable properties
in the applicant's nominated zone and according to their assessed housing
requirements. The statewide average is 91 weeks and includes public
housing tenants who have very specific location requirements or very specific
housing requirements. Data for the applicant who may have waited the longest on
the public housing waitlist is not captured in this way or in reportable data.
This would require a manual review of individual case files and is not
considered a reasonable use of frontline government resources.
