I refer to the shortage of skilled workers across Western Australia’s agricultural sector, and I ask:
(a) How many students are currently enrolled in agriculture-related STEM subjects in WA public secondary schools;
(b) How does this compare with enrolment numbers in 2017;
(c) How many WA public schools currently offer agricultural science or agricultural technology subjects;
(d) How many of those schools are located in regional WA;
(e) Has the Government reduced, increased or maintained funding for school agricultural programs since 2021;
(f) What initiatives are in place to encourage students from metropolitan schools to pursue careers in agriculture and agribusiness;
(g) Does the Government consider agriculture and agribusiness to be a priority STEM industry under its Future State, Future Skills strategy:
(i) if yes, why has there been limited reference to agriculture within the published strategy document;
(h) How many agriculture-related apprenticeships, traineeships or cadetships have been supported under the strategy;
(i) What percentage of funding under the strategy has been directed to regional WA;
(j) Has the Government consulted Regional Development Commissions regarding agricultural workforce needs; and
(k) What measurable outcomes has the strategy delivered for the agricultural sector to date?
