I note the variation for 'Prevention' between estimated
actual of $43.8m and budget of $34.1m in 2025-26 (as shown on page 325 of the 2026-27 Budget Papers) which is explained as increased spending on a
suite of programs. Can the Minister advise:
(a) How this extraordinary 28% variation from budget came about;
(b) Were these new programs simply not considered a priority 12 months ago or has new data become available driving the need for an urgent response;
(c) What new programs were implemented in 2025-26 and at what costs;
(d) What were the target groups for these programs; and
(e) What prompted the decision to implement each of these programs?
