Fertiliser supply
199. Mr Lachlan Hunter to
the Premier:
I have a
supplementary question. Given that fertiliser is just as critical as diesel to
agricultural production, why has the Premier's government failed to treat this
issue with the same urgency as it treats fuel supply?

AnswerView source ↗

That supplementary
is just absolute nonsense. We have known all along when we sat down with the Western
Australian Farmers Federation on 11 March—do not forget that the conflict
in the Middle East began on 28 February. By 11 March, we were already
sitting down with industry groups to understand their concerns and challenges,
and we have responded significantly. For the member's benefit, the changes that
the federal government made to the Export Finance Australia legislation, which
allows it to underwrite or underpin imports of goods such as fuel and
fertiliser through non-commercial shipping channels, mean that extra measures
are in place to ensure that we get extra shipments of fertiliser into the
country and the state. The member's suggestion that somehow fertiliser has been
forgotten as part of these global challenges is just complete nonsense.
