These regulations amend the Road Traffic (Authorisation to Drive) Regulations 2014 to update definitions, clarify recognition of interstate and foreign driving authorisations, and introduce temporary extended recognition periods, especially for heavy vehicle licenses.
Drivers with interstate or foreign licenses, particularly those operating heavy vehicles, may be affected by changes to recognition rules. The CEO gains power to extend recognition during emergencies. The Department of Transport and law enforcement will need to implement and enforce the new regulations.
