These regulations amend the Spent Convictions Act 1988 to update references and expand the scope of spent conviction checks for certain positions related to young offenders under the Young Offenders Act 1994.
The regulations affect individuals seeking or holding positions such as custodial officers, officers/employees under section 11(1a)(b) of the Young Offenders Act, Juvenile Justice Team Coordinators, supervising officers, members of Aboriginal community councils with supervision agreements, and monitors of young Aboriginal offenders. These individuals will be subject to expanded spent conviction checks.
